"We now believe off-campus social exposures are greater than first reported.”
Just one week after Loyola Academy students returned to the Wilmette high school’s campus, officials said Monday they are closing for two weeks after several students tested positive for COVID-19.
Officials say they believe the students likely contracted the virus at social gatherings off-campus.
As of the end of the school day on Friday, six students at the private Catholic high school had tested positive for COVID-19, and 63 students were in quarantine for issues related to exposure, travel or symptoms, officials said in a statement on the Loyola website.
