Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to encourage you to read UTFA’s 2024-2025 Annual Newsletter, now live here. As always, it documents UTFA’s achievements over the last year through a series of informative Executive reports. Even if you cannot attend UTFA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), we encourage you to read it.
Please be reminded that UTFA’s AGM will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, via Zoom. All UTFA members are eligible and encouraged to attend; more than 400 have registered to date!
Agenda highlights include:
-
Sorting Fact from Fiction: Their Budget Decisions and Impacts on Your Work at U of T (Keynote)
Send us your questions about the impact of Trump’s tariffs, government funding, decentralized university budgeting, international enrolments, graduate student funding increases, academic restructuring, the need for stronger collegial governance, job security, or anything related to the state of U of T’s finances and our work as faculty members and librarians. -
Highlights from the Bargaining Table and UTFA’s ongoing work on the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)
Send us your questions about salary and benefits negotiations, historic breakthroughs in the grievance and arbitration process, UTFA vs. the Admin on key issues such as workload and housing, retiree access to MS 365, why our MoA is still unfit for purpose, or anything related to the work of your UTFA Negotiating Team. -
Academic Freedom: Know Your Rights!
Send us your questions about what to do when facing pressure to change your teaching or research (or public communications related to your teaching or research), how UTFA can support members facing challenges in the context of rising threats in North American higher education, or anything related to upholding your academic freedom rights in the workplace.
Note that you can suggest questions in advance when you register, or after you register via faculty@utfa.org.
We look forward to seeing you at the AGM on Thursday!
Best wishes,
The UTFA Executive
