Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to encourage you to read UTFA’s 2022-2023 Annual Newsletter, now live here. As always, it documents UTFA’s achievements over the last year through a series of informative Executive reports. However, this year’s Newsletter mainly focuses on current issues of critical importance to our Association: our ongoing efforts to bargain salary “catch-up” to address the significant losses in our real incomes over the last three years and the housing/cost-of-living crisis faced by so many of us; the need for major structural reform of our bargaining and dispute resolutions frameworks with the senior Administration; historic shifts in faculty complement at U of T, with rising precarity and a declining proportion of tenure stream positions; health and safety; and, other concerns.
Please be reminded that UTFA’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, via Zoom. All UTFA members are eligible and encouraged to attend; more than 400 have registered already! The featured interactive presentations will address priority-setting for negotiations; potential solutions to the crisis in housing affordability; and the need for structural improvements in the way we bargain. Note that you can suggest questions for the panelists in advance when you register, or after you register via faculty@utfa.org.
I look forward to seeing you at the AGM on Tuesday!
Best wishes,
Terezia Zorić
UTFA President
