Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT)
If we are to ensure a stronger and more just post-COVID-19 Canada, high quality and accessible universities and colleges must be part of the recovery plan. This requires long-term and long overdue solutions to the crises facing our sector – the lack of public funding and precarious employment top among them.
CAUT has developed recommendations for how the federal government can best respond to challenges facing post-secondary institutions, while also putting universities and colleges on a path to long-term sustainability.
Academic staff associations can join the call for stronger federal support for post-secondary education by taking these three actions:
1. Share CAUT’s recommendations to the federal government with your members.
2. Encourage your members to use CAUT’s on-line template to send a letter to their Member of Parliament (MP) calling for immediate steps to further close the gaps in emergency support and long-term actions to improve the affordability and sustainability of post-secondary education.
3. Work with CAUT to organize a virtual meeting with MPs to discuss these recommendations.
If you are interested in scheduling a meeting with your MP, please send an email to parl@caut.ca. If you have any additional questions, please contact Christina Muehlberger, Membership Engagement, Organizing & Outreach Officer, at Muehlberger@caut.ca or at 613-327-2886.
Together, we can ensure that high quality and accessible universities and colleges are part of Canada’s long-term recovery plan.
