(Ottawa – March 8, 2025) This International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate progress toward equity for women in Canada and around the world. On this occasion, we recognize that the work to advance gender equity in the academy is far from over.
Barriers facing women in the academy include lower pay, overrepresentation in lower academic ranks and in short-term contract positions, and a disproportionate responsibility for family care.
Collaboration and collective action are the keys to accelerating gender equity, fairness and justice for all women. Governments, employers and unions can work together to end the socio-economic and professional disparities between women and men.
With women still facing inequities and injustices, the Canadian Association of University Teachers remains committed to advancing the rights of all women in Canadian universities and colleges.
